Description (Service) | Supports for children, youth, and families experiencing crisis situation not imminently life threatening but who would benefit from immediate supportive response * responds to calls from involved youth, parents and community members who are concerned about youth who present as overly sad, worried, suicidal, aggressive, threatening/out of control behaviour, or who may have worries about disturbing or unusual behaviours Mental Health Crisis Line operates out of Canadian Mental Health Association, Simcoe County Branch and provides telephone crisis intervention 24 hours a day * Crisis Line provides the link to the Youth Crisis Response Worker Crisis worker: * provides telephone response within one hour of receiving the call from referral source, assists parents and youth over the telephone to address concerning behaviour safely and supports the development of plans intended to stabilize the situation * conducts risk assessments and safety planning involving the child or youth, in the client's home if the situation is safe, or in an office, to assist with determining the level of risk (for self-harm or harm to others) for the child or youth * assists with development of safety plans and coping plans and provides information and supportive counselling * referrals to resources in the community will be supported< * provides follow-up with the agreement of the youth and family * appointments are provided to the youth and family as needed following the first contact * provides further support to ensure continued de-escalation of the crisis occurs Youth Crisis Response Services for Children and Youth is an initiative of the Ontario Government |
