Description

Description (Service) Public Health Nurses work with individuals and groups to plan and support healthy living and healthy communities:
  • Engage in a variety of community-based physical activity, healthy eating and built environment initiatives to reduce the risks for people developing chronic diseases
  • Healthy Schools program to help creating and maintain healthy school environments
  • Prevention of injuries and substance misuse
  • Healthy child development support from pre-conception to school transition
  • Prenatal classes, breastfeeding clinics and support, parenting education
  • Home visits to new parents through the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program
  • Exchange Works, a harm reduction program, offers needle exchange services at all health unit offices
