Description (Service)
  • Addresses and acts upon all housing issues and related requests through a housing committee overseen by the Public Works Department 
  • Ensures that housing issues are effectively managed 
  • Participates in the First Nations Market Housing Fund (FNMHF)
 
Offers the following services: 
  • Provides recommendations and changes to the housing policy 
  • Receives and reviews applications at Council meetings for renovations, new housing units, housing loans and housing renovation loans  
  • Liaises with Director of Public Works and Chief and Council on all construction projects and future developments 
  • Reviews rents to ensure payments are made 
  • Arranges inspections of rental units and community houses for maintenance, repairs and renovations 
  • Carries out annual maintenance and repairs on behalf of tenants 
  • Maintains a comprehensive database on all community housing units that includes information such as what programs were accessed for building and repairs, loans outstanding, services (water, sewer, roads) available, inspection reports, condition of unit, year it was built and other unit particulars 
  • Enforces all tenant agreements and explains agreement responsibilities 
  • Works closely with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)

  • Wasauksing First Nation (WFN) has 76 rental units, 80 individual owned homes and 10 summer residences, not including the Wasauksing Lands Inc (WLI) cottage lots; WLI is a private corporation that leases land from WFN 
  • Housing facilities include a newer six-unit multiplex and an elder's residence 
  • There are also 8 vacant/abandoned homes with no hydro
