Description (Service) Veterans' Affairs offers services and benefits to qualified Veterans and their families, members of the Canadian Forces, serving and discharged RCMP, allied veterans and some civilians. Services include:  
 
* War Veterans Allowance/ Canadian Forces Income Support  
* Veterans Independence Program (VIP) for Veterans and survivors of deceased Veterans to help them live independently in their own home  
* Disability Pensions/ benefits - for those who may qualify because of a service related injury  
* Health programs including benefits, rehabilitation services 
* Long-term Care 
* Transition to civilian life 
* Mental health and well being, homeless, Pastoral Outreach  
* Grave Marker Maintenance, Funeral and Burial Assistance  
* Education assistance for a child of a deceased CAF member or veteran, see website for details  
 
The VAC Assistance Service - 24-hour toll-free help line that can provide Veterans and their families with free short-term professional counselling and referral services, including support for marital and family problems, transitional, grief, emotional, substance abuse, financial, work related problems and any other concerns affecting your well being. This toll-free number is not an emergency service but for severe or dangerous circumstances, the counsellor has received the appropriate professional training to make the necessary crisis intervention.
