Description (Service) Serves the community by providing protection from fire, life threatening emergencies and dangerous conditions through * education * prevention * rescue * suppression * basic life support services * public education * fire suppression and fire safety programs * annual 'Fire Prevention Week' held in October. 
 
Open Fire violations fall under municipal by-laws * burning permit required for any open fire is available from the municipal offices at 10 Robert St. W. * failure to apply for permit could result in prosecution 
 
 
Smoke alarms are required on every floor of a house or apartment unit * must be maintained by the occupant or owner.
