Description (Service)

Helps people living with dementia and their family make informed choices so they can live better with dementia at every stage of the disease

  • Assists with identifying and accessing the information, supports and services that meet the individual's unique needs
  • Facilitates connections to education, programs and services offered by the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka as well as other health care and community service providers.

Provides:

  • one-on-one counselling
  • caregiver support groups
  • support groups for persons newly diagnosed
  • referral to community resource by phone, drop in, or home visit
  • First Link Learning Series

Learning Series courses include:

  • First Steps for People with Dementia and Caregivers
  • Next Steps for Families and Friends
  • Care Essentials
  • Options for Care
  • Care in the Later Stages

Each course builds upon the previous one to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of dementia, coping strategies, resources and support systems. Call for information and schedule of courses.

Other services provided include:

  • presentations to clubs, service groups and churches
  • training to professional staff
  • company of good cheer dinner program
  • weekly drop-in program
  • support groups
  • Minds in Motion program
  • music i-pod program
  • lending library
  • resource centre, robotic animals, activity kits etc.

Public Comments First Link Care Navigation and Supportive Counselling Services are offered by phone, in person and online.
Hours Mon-Fri 9 am-4:30 pm
Areas Served Muskoka District ; Parry Sound ; South East/South West Parry Sound District
Eligibility Anyone living with Alzheimer, family members, caregivers.
Application By phone or email, no referral required.
