Description (Service) COVID19
  • Vaccinations for individuals ages 5 and older. Booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines are now available for all individuals 18 and older. Appointment bookings must be arranged through the provincial online booking system or by phoning 1-888-999-6488.
  • Vaccinations are also available through pharmacies and local clinics.

  • Free transportation provided by Community Care Northumberland to any Northumberland County senior who has an appointment booked for the vaccine. Phone 1-866-768-7778 to register and request a ride to appointment.
  • Free transportation provided by Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes to residents of City of Kawartha Lakes with an appointment for the vaccine. Phone 705-324-7323 ext 654 to request a ride.
  • Free transportation provided by Haliburton Highlands Health Services to residents of Haliburton County with an appointment for the vaccine. Phone 705-457-2941 and press 1, to request a ride.

Regular service
Following Ontario Public Health Standards the HKPR Health Unit works to prevent disease and provide leadership in health protection and healthy living through the following programs:
  • Health Protection - Disease, infection and outbreak control
  • Oral Health Department - dental hygiene and screening for children and youth ages 17 and under in need of treatment and without insurance, dental clinics and school dental programs
  • Healthy Families Programs - Information on family planning, support programs, nutrition and physical health, tobacco and health, falls prevention, injury prevention, health hazard investigation, immunizations, pre-school speech and language as well as support to pregnant women, new mothers and their babies.
  • Environmental Health Program- inspection of food premises, water testing, water treatment, beach testing and postings, e coli, as well as the reporting and treatment of rabies
  • Sexual Health Program and Clinic - Education and counselling to increase awareness and knowledge and services related to birth control, unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS and HIV
