Assist newcomers to Canada (mainly adults) with improving their English language skills. Meet once a week at a regular time for one to two hours. Most newcomers are looking for help with conversation, speaking and listening skills, pronunciation and widening their vocabulary. Occasionally help with grammar or academic writing is requested.

*Assist with organizing and running social events to welcome newcomers to Canada and to enable them to meet other newcomers and members of the local community. 
* Help newcomers to improve their English language skills and integrate into life in Canada.  
* Lead or assist with visits to introduce newcomers to local places of interest including museums, parks, the library and the hospital. 
*Assist with activities designed to introduce newcomers to Canadian life and culture.

* Assist at the Multicultural Canada Day Festival in Del Crary Park on July 1 organized by the New Canadians Centre Peterborough.  
* Volunteer shifts (approximately 3 hours) are available throughout the day from 6:30 am - 4:30 pm. 
* Volunteer positions include: setting up tents and tables, dish-washing, assisting with BBQ and cotton candy stands, organizing activities for children, selling raffle tickets, cleaning up.
